Scenic Escape w/ Dock: 1 Mi to Ocracoke Lighthouse
Perfect for two of us plus our dog. The deck is lovely with new furniture and the view can’t be beat. Easy bike or golf cart ride to the Village and the owners are friendly and responsive.

Starlights 2 - Oceanfront! 2BR
A big thank you to Matthew! The best part of my vacation was spent right here taking in the beautiful views, letting the ocean wash my worries away and getting some much need relaxation.

The Red Cardinal "Lela's", Ocracoke NC
Greatly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful home. Loved the central location on the island and being close to everything. Julia was a very responsive host and alerted us when the home was available, which was earlier than we expected.

Lovely apartment located above the coffee shop
The apartment was so cute and on-theme! I loved going down to the coffee shop to do my work or grab a snack before heading to the beach. It’s a super convenient location, and we didn’t really experience any noise concerns.

The place was nice, but you'd better bring everything with you when you arrive. No Toilet paper, paper towels. You need things to clean pots and pans, as well as items to scrub and wash dishes. So, if you do stay here, have a bag with all your cleaning supplies and toiletries ready for easy access, especially if you have kids who need to use the bathroom right away. I would stay here again, but I would be better prepared when I arrive. Don't let what I'm saying stop you from staying here; have what you need packed before you arrive.

The Best Nest
Great space in a beautiful location. Loved being close to the beach and checking out everything Hatteras plus the surrounding areas had to offer. Look forward to returning next year.

Warblers Way Guest Suite Hatteras Village
My boyfriend & I had a great stay at 'Warbler Way' and would definitely stay here again should we find ourselves traveling to Hatteras Island in the future! We had no problems getting into the place using the keypad entry. Trip has thought of everything, from a variety of coffee flavors for the Keurig to extra washcloths in the bathroom. The bed is huge & very comfortable. My favorite part of this place was all of the outdoor seating -- there is a back deck with two sturdy chairs and a table, seating on the front porch, a bench along the side of the house and two Adirondack-style chairs on the lawn! The public beach access is only a few minutes walk, which was another highlight. Trip was quick to respond to my messages, but also respected our privacy during our stay. This is the perfect place for couples or solo travelers when visiting the Outer Banks!

Your guide to Ocracoke
Introduction
With pristine beaches, fabulous fishing, and real pirate coves, Ocracoke Island is arguably the most intriguing of North Carolina’s Outer Banks islands. Anchoring the barrier islands’ southern tip, the island is a waterfront getaway full of nature and culture, as well as its own distinct dialect, called High Tider. Ocracoke was known as a pirates’ hideaway long before it was settled in the mid-18th century, primarily because its terrain was more amenable to hiding bandits than fostering new construction. Blackbeard the Pirate was one of the island’s regulars, right up until his death there in 1718. Today, Ocracoke is a treasure for visitors thanks to its 16-mile white sandy beach, charming village with a storybook history, and more galleries and antique shops per capita than anywhere else in the region.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Ocracoke
Ocracoke experiences a subtropical climate, which translates to hot, humid summers and dry, mild winters. The most popular time to stay in one of the island’s vacation rentals is in summer, when the town is fully operational and visitor-friendly. Temperatures typically climb into the upper 80s Fahrenheit, often accompanied by humid air. The region’s strong winds tend to keep climes comfortable enough to enjoy all of the outdoor recreation Ocracoke has to offer. The island more or less shuts down in the winter, with only a few businesses open year-round. Winter temperatures hover in the 40s and 50s, seldom dropping any lower. Beware of hurricane season, which runs from late summer to late fall in Ocracoke. Pay close attention to local weather reports if you’re planning a visit during this time.
Top things to do in Ocracoke
Ocracoke Lighthouse
The Ocracoke Lighthouse, completed in 1823, stands proud over the Pamlico Sound. It’s the oldest operating lighthouse in the state of North Carolina, and the second-oldest in the country. Though it’s not open for climbing, it’s a popular spot for sunset snapshots.
Silver Lake
Called the Creek by locals, Silver Lake is a can’t-miss landmark in Ocracoke: all three ferries pass through it en route to dock. Beyond its transportation duties, Silver Lake is a popular spot for kayaking and fishing, and during the summer months Silver Lake Harbor hosts a maker’s market every Wednesday.
Portsmouth Island
The southernmost barrier island on the Outer Banks is so remote that it’s often overlooked. From Ocracoke, the journey to Portsmouth is less than 45 minutes by passenger ferry, and it’s a sight to see. There are no vacation homes, services, or businesses on this rustic island, and the village has been a literal ghost town for decades. What it lacks in civilization, it makes up for in quiet, remote bliss, especially if you like fishing and camping.
