What you'll do

Visit the fascinating Montserrat Mountain Range. This unusually shaped mountain, made of conglomerate rock, was established as a Natural Park in 1987 after a huge forest fire. The magical spires hide thousands of excellent rock climbing routes.

After admiring the 360° amazing views from the St Miquel's Cross, we will imagine which animals and characters the rounded rocks resemble. We will enjoy a discovery walk through the classic Mediterranean vegetation characterized by dense oak tree forest, boxwood bushes, and aromatic plants growing in the open meadows. We will tickle our sense of smell with wild rosemary, thyme, and lavender growing freely along the path and, if we are lucky, spot the iconic wild goat of Montserrat confidently walking on steep edges.

Throughout the sensational walk, we will observe other animal tracks and signs of local fauna. Seasonal fruit will be provided to all participants at Pla de Tarántulas. From Pla de Tarántuals, we will take a mountain trail and cross a small creek as we gently descend through the main valley back to the Monastery. Here we will visit the church with Saint Mary and taste some locally produced cheeses and fig bread.

I am a qualified mountain guide with years of experiences in outdoor education from Norway (Friluftsliv), Czech Republic (Rekreologie) and Spain. During my master studies in tourism management (EMTM), I lived in Denmark, Slovenia, and Spain and had the unique opportunity to learn the core skills in international tourism hospitality. I have spent 5 years in Catalonia and take full advantage, with my family, of the mountain ranges and the rough but magnificent coast of the Costa Brava.

Montserrat is a must visit place. The hike was wonderful and Stepan was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgable of the area and terrain. I would definitely go on another one of his tours. Stepan made the experience personalized to our needs and was able to answer all my questions. Highly recommend!

I had a fun time on this hike. Stephan was a great guide and he will suggest different paths depending on your interest and activity level. The other guests cancelled last minute so I was the only one on this hike. I've had other tour companies cancel plans at the last minute due to not enough people signing up, so I really appreciate that Stephan was willing to still run the tour for just one person. Thanks so much!

I went on the 'Small Group' Top Montserrat Hike and it turned out that the group really was small - only one person, me! It was a great oportunity to get out of the city for a day and explore this amazing location that is so important for the Catalan people. If you are lucky and catch a clear day, the peak offers a breathtaking 360 view of the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean sea, towns, hills and other mountain ranges around Montserrat. Stepan was a great guide and a really friendly person. He made sure I was alright at all times and I feel like I learned a lot from him about the history of Monserrat and its significance to the people of Catalunya. I recommend this experience and any of the other experiences offered by Stepan!

Stepan was very friendly and welcoming and the experience was awesome! He was very caring during the day and made the hiking comfortable for all the group members, although we had different abilities. The nature of the mountain is unbelievable and beautiful and we got to the very top although there were different route options. Stepan provided us with some snacks and water and made a lot of wonderful photos for us. I would highly recommend to everybody to go for it as this experience left a lot of great memories which I will keep for all my life.

This hike was a fantastic experience!! We hiked as a small group, just 3 people in all, but it allowed us to all feel like we got to know eachother by the end. Stepan has the entire trip SO well planned out, with stops at different points to inform you about different histories and rock formations and native plants and animals. He has found a way to personalize the hike to every style of hiker and is a complete pleasure to talk to. He is extremely experienced in being a guide and it is very apparent that he loves sharing these experiences with others. Also, he brings yummy snacks :) Highly recommend this experience with Stepan!
