What you'll do

Ride through beautiful mountains and practice equine yoga in North Carolina

We’ll horseback ride through the beautiful mountains of Pisgah Forest, getting to know our horses and working on our riding skills.

On our first day, we’ll have the option to practice 90 minutes of equine yoga or go on a trail ride. After enjoying a dinner set in the center of the horse field, we’ll sit by the campfire, make s’mores, and enjoying wine, beer, or hot tea.

After a peaceful sleep in your cabin on the farm, we’ll prepare for our 4-hour afternoon trail ride through the forest by feeding, grooming, and saddling our horses.

Joy was clearly passionate about making the experience very special. I had such a lovely time and felt like I was in good hands. From the amazing meals, the beautiful landscape, sitting around the fire and reading poems to the opportunity to learn and participate in Equine Yoga, a wonderful trail ride under the beautiful canopy of trees in the Pisgah Forest, I can't say enough about this experience. I went on the Pisgah Forest Horse Riding Adventure with a group of women I knew previously. It was a treat for all of us to connect in this amazing place and for Joy to lead us on this adventure. We experienced rain toward the end of our trail ride but the canopy of trees protected us and did not spoil our experience in any way.

It's been a few days, and I'm still thinking about what a magical experience I had on Joy's trail-riding adventure. It was incredible from the moment of arrival onward and so special. An amazing gourmet dinner prepared by Joy over an open fire and eaten outdoors under the night sky. An idyllic and peaceful mountain setting, staying overnight in an adorable (and super clean) tiny cabin. Best of all, though, was the time with the horses -- I've been on trail rides before on other trips, but never had the sort of immersive experience that Joy created, where I got to groom and walk with my horse before riding, as well as take part in an equine yoga session. For someone unfamiliar with horses, it made it both more fun and relaxing. I'd highly recommend this for friends or families looking for a one-of-a-kind experience in the mountains.

What a magical and memorable experience -- exceptional in every way! Joy is an animal whisperer, special event artist, gourmet cook, caring and perceptive teacher, and unflappable and welcoming host and guide, all in one. She created an experience I'm sure our group will never forget. It connected us with the horses and other animals on her farm, with the land and breathtaking setting, and with each other. She is especially gifted and attentive when it comes to helping less-experienced riders bond with horses and learn the basics, so the equine yoga and riding portions of the experience are so meaningful and completely safe. And observing her prepare gourmet feasts over a gorgeous outdoor, open-fire kitchen is like watching a modern dance performance! Most of all, she is kind, generous, and exceptionally attentive. And flexible and creative -- she effortlessly adapted our experience to work better with some unpredictable weather patterns. The forest canopy was the perfect cover, even when riding in light rain, and her exquisite indoor farmhouse kitchen instantly became the setting for our finale brunch when it began to pour. Can't recommend Joy and this spectacular experience highly enough!

Imagine around the world on the back of a horse pausing at 180 degrees to stretch up and relax over. Whoa! And this was just a very small part of an experience I will always treasure. Joy was as impressive a hostess as was the setting of our overnight retreat...a ridge in the shadows of the Pisgah Mountain surrounded by hardwood trees, grassy fields, birds singing, sheep baaing, horses neighing. In this serene landscape she shared with us her passions for the outdoors, animals great and small and cooking over an open fire. After warmly greeting us at the cozy small cabins as we arrived Joy showed us the way up to the pasture. Under the shadow of the bunny hutch pavilion she creatively set a calm tempo for our visit. (Holding a bunny in the palm of my hand couldn't help but slow down my pace.) As a group of friends who had gathered to share this adventure we enjoyed chatting for a bit, sharing our past equine experiences and especially hearing Joy's story of her life long passion for horses. It was immediately evident that Joy has a natural sensitivity and understanding of horses. She explained to us how horses communicate and how to approach them. But it was in observing her gentle ways that most impressed upon me how I could be more horse sensitive. This lesson helped me bond and put trust in my horse which inturn heightened the pleasure of grooming, doing yoga on their bare backs, and riding on a trail in the Pisgah Forest. The ride on a beautiful trail edged with blooming rhodos and wildflowers was the highlight for me. Even the rain on the way back was not about to break our spirits. We were having too much fun. The exclamation point of the gathering was presented following a surprise spa session! We returned to the pasture to find a spread of delicious hors d'oeurevs. Near the firepit Joy was preparing our dinner of fresh roasted vegetables and grilled fish. She was so enjoying herself that her smile was brightly glowing. The meal was gourmet! Ever bite savored as we sat under the stars eating, enjoying, chatting and laughing. Laughing, chatting, reading poems about horses, roasting marshmallows for s'mores. Before heading out on Saturday after our trail ride Joy invited us to her home for brunch. The rain fell but Joy was completely flexible in her plans making sure we enjoyed ever moment to the fullest. It was nice to sit around the farm table together with time to talk about our equine adventure and to thank Joy for hosting such a fabulous memory. I look forward to our group doing it again soon.

What an amazing experience😀From the peaceful setting of pastures and the field of sheep, to the dining next to a blazing open fire, I felt so relaxed. I loved being with the horses and helping out with the grooming. Joy is patient, so knowledgeable about her horses and made everyone comfortable. This was my first equine yoga session. Joy made it so easy. So calming. The horses enjoyed it as much as we did. Even between the rain drops, Joy made our time flow smoothly. I can’t wait to come back😀😀😀
