What you'll do

Making jewellery is an exploratory art, often the metals can change shape during the process, and you can go in a new direction. With skilled assistance you will have fun creating your very own unique jewellery with tools including blowtorches, dremels, hammers and the anvil.

All tools will be explained, and no experience is necessary.

We start by selecting the ring, earrings or pendant you wish to create

If you have a design or idea please contact me before the workshop to make sure we have time to bring this to life.

You will learn hands on how to use different tools, and techniques to create your piece.

Sarah has a laid back teaching style, when she first handled tools she was nervous and a little bit concerned about burning holes in the carpet, or not being strong enough. With most tools a light touch is enough to create your work.

Sarah has built up her jewellery making skills over three years to be accomplished in silversmithing, wire wrapping and her speciality is abalone carving. She likes nothing better than wandering beaches and rock pools searching for the next beauty to create with. Sarah works across a range of medium, having worked with silk paper, textiles, and papers to create jewellery. Collaboration is at the core of what she does, she has worked with water colour artists to recreate their work in jewellery, she has worked with potters to create findings and has a design patent for memorial lockets.

Where you'll be

Kingston Creative Studios is a unique space in Melbourne, formed by a collective of makers to share tools, experience and knowledge. We have created a resource library and have on site tools for many activities. We have a plot in the community garden which is a beautiful spot to rest during classes and enjoy the peace and admire the potters pizza oven. Once a maternal health centre and playgroup venue this once vacant building has new life.

Sarah is amazing and she is very passion with what she does. Sarah taught us how to make bangle which was what I wanted to do. The lesson was fun and I enjoyed it very much, I couldn’t have ask a better teacher. Sarah passion’s with jewellery has influence me in a way as well, I would do it class again and if there’s spot available, don’t think about it. Click it and do it! Overall, I’m so glad I met Sarah and it was a lovely experience :)

This is a smashing experience. You don’t just go step by step making basic things. You are given the materials and tuition and she helps you work out how to do it. It’s so open ended its a learning experience for all with different styles and creative flows we all walked away with something unique and to cherish.
