What you'll do

Learn how to prep and host a successful sukiyaki meal!

After meeting up at the Hankyu Ibaraki-shi station (阪急茨木市駅), we will walk to two nearby local supermarkets and local shops to pick up all the ingredients for making sukiyaki. We will visit various specialty shops including a tofu shop and an eggs shop. I will explain how to choose each ingredient and alternatives for them. The course will include premium wagyu.

Then, we will walk back to my restaurant where individual cooking stations are set up for you. Upon arrival I will serve a welcome drink before we start cooking.

We will first prepare the ingredient and sauce for the sukiyaki. Afterwards, we will move on to cook the sukiyaki step by step - wagyu beef, vegetable, and udon courses!

I will follow up with all instructions and photos of each ingredient via email after class.

For any reasons, if you cannot make it to the meeting point on time and I could not reply back to your message (since the class has probably started), please come directly to Dio’s Cafe.
You can use google map and search for Dio’s Cafe or type this address directly: Japan, 〒567-0815 Ōsaka-fu, Ibaraki-shi, Takehashichō, 5−8

I have a strong passion in cooking and have recently opened my first restaurant. I am an avid self-taught chef, specializing in everyday Japanese home cuisine. Besides cooking, I am also a world traveler and hosted many of my friends who I met during my journey when they visited Japan. I enjoyed sharing Japanese culture and delicious cooking with all of you.

Where you'll be

We will conduct the cooking class at my restaurant - Dio's Cafe, where cooking stations are set up for hands-on experience. Ibaraki city is conveniently located between Osaka and Kyoto (20 mins each by Hankyu line). We will also stop by two local markets to learn about and purchase the ingredients for the cooking class.

Ended up being a private class. He made us feel really comfortable and we learnt lots. The food was delicious and we were super full afterwards! We liked that he showed us the markets too. Great local experience and loved supporting him.

This was my third trip to Japan and first time taking an Airbnb Experience. Koichiro is an excellent host and teacher! His communication was clear, and I enjoyed walking through the market and then to his cafe. Everything was within a few minutes walk from the subway station. Most importantly, the food was amazing! A unique experience that I'm going to attempt to recreate at home. I also loved hearing about his international travels too!

Amazing Experience! Host meets you at the station, guides you through buying all the ingredients at a local markets (which are all included!). Brings you back to his cafe and teaches you how to make sukiyaki with VERY high quality Waygu beef. Extremely friendly and knowledgable and made this experience very personalized. Would have payed much more for this quality of experience!

Koichiro personally met with us and brought us to the local shopping arcade for special and specific ingredients we otherwise would not have known about. After that we took a short walk to his cozy cafe and begun our lesson. The whole experience was extremely casual and comfortable. Koichiro was especially attentive to our needs, and not to mention the Sukiyaki was delicious!! Good quality ingredients and a really fun environment. Dio, his dog, is also there the whole time to supervise us ☺️ would recommend this experience to travellers going through the area.
