Koto is the most famous instrument in traditional Japanese music.
The sound of the koto is elegant and very beautiful.
I am a professional musician who has been teaching for 27 years, so even beginners and children can enjoy playing.

◇First, learn the basics of koto.
◇Next, we will practice the traditional Japanese song.
◇Finally, you will be able to duet with me. Please take a video to commemorate.

◇After the experience of Koto, it is tea time with green tea and traditional sweets. While enjoying drinking tea, you can enjoy traditional Japanese manners.

Hello! Here is traditional strings class at the central area of Kyoto.

I am a professional musician and composer of koto, shamisen and kokyu, native Kyoto born and raised in Kyoto. I play at many concerts in Kyoto.
It has been 28 years since I started the classroom here. In addition to this classroom, I have been teaching for many years in junior high school music classes and junior and senior high school traditional music clubs.

I want many people to experience the wonderfulness of traditional musical instruments.
Please try it when you come to Kyoto. I look forward to playing with you!

It’s my first time trying koto and it was such an amazing experience! Sachiko-san is an expert at both playing and teaching koto. She prepared everything for a beginner like me and it was very easy to understand right away! She even prepared some handmade drinks and summer sweets when we are taking a break. It’s a must-try experience at Kyoto, especially if you are a music lover!!!

The lesson with Sachiko was everything I wanted and more! I've always wanted to play the Koto and being able to learn it with such a passionate and knowledgeable teacher such as Sachiko was a dream come true. She taught me all the basics of playing the Koto, along with a brief history lesson on the instrument and by the end of the lesson I was able to play a full accompanied piece of Sakura together with Sachiko. I was also treated with a delicious mochi and tea at the end of lesson. Sachiko was very friendly and I would recommend this lesson to anyone interested in traditional Japanese music.

Sachiko is a real expert in the ways of the koto and I felt privileged to spend the time with her. I really enjoyed being able to play such an interesting and iconic instrument, especially with my musical background. I was able to capture the idea of playing quickly due to my background on the guitar, so Sachiko kindly offered to take me through a more advanced song for the rest of the time I was there. I will really treasure this experience as a wonderful chance to experience Japanese culture in a hands on way!

I had a fantastic time with Sachiko playing the koto. She spent time to teach me different techniques in such a short section and corrected small things as needed. She curates a very solid experience from learning about the koto, learning the instrument, learning basic techniques, playing a duet, and then finishing off with tea. It was so well organized and the hour went by so quickly! Additionally, she’s very responsive about questions of the city or recommendations and it made me feel like I had a friend in the city. This was on top of all the koto knowledge she shared. Regardless of your musical experience level, I think that anyone would have a great time with her.
