What you'll do

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, has one of the most fascinating Jewish cultures and history in Europe. It is a community that still flourishes in spite of the many difficulties it has had throughout its long history. I would like to invite you to an interactive conversation, where I will share with you stories about this community, from the time of the Austrian empire, through the Holocaust and the communist era until our present time. I will do this through a bit of historical context, several images, and by sharing my own family stories. As part of the generation that was born at the end of the communist era, raised in the hopeful 90s and 2000s, I have had my own personal journey through understanding my family’s background, the stories of my grandparents who have survived the holocaust, those of my parents who grew up in communism, and all the other stories from which I gradually started to build my own identity. The experience will be the virtual adaptation of my offline tour, which you can learn about and see its reviews here: https://www.airbnb.hu/experiences/181441.
If you would like to attend, but the times don't work for you, please feel free to reach out to me, and I will do my best to make your requested times happen!
Other things to note
As this experience will be an interactive conversation, please make sure you have access to a camera and a microphone. I will aslo show you some pictures, so probably a laptop, or a bigger screen is the best. Also, it is quite important to have a good level of English.

I am a freelance psychologist and singer. I guide culture walks in the Jewish quarter of Budapest, Hungary. I have been guiding groups for quite a few years now, and in the past two years through Airbnb. The Jewish quarter of Budapest is my passion, I have spent many years now studying about it, as well as discovering my own family background through it. I have also learned a lot from the people who have been on my tours and challenged my mind over and over again. They really inspired me to think about the real essence of this neighborhood and community. As a psychologist, I am always very interested in my guests’ stories, and their take on the events we talk about.

This was a great way to do a "walking tour" of somewhere we can't travel right now. Now I know some places I would live to visit when I can travel there and I would definitely contact Dora to be my tour guide.

Very well researched and presented. We participated as a family because our roots are in Hungary, and Dora's family stories have inspired us to learn more about our own family history. I highly recommend this tour, especially if you have a family connection to Eastern Europe.

Experience an incredible part of history through Dora's informative lecture, personal history, magnificent photos and "visits" to important sights. Dora is a true historian, caters the tour to you, and answers all questions with careful thought and knowledge. I highly recommend Dora and this tour and look forward to touring with Dora in person in the future.

Gifted the experience to my mother for her birthday. Dora has a bubbly personality and she is a great storyteller. In 1,5 hour we learned a lot about the Jewish history in Budapest. We would definitely recommend it.

This was a wonderful experience! I loved Dora's presentation, and felt immersed in not only the place, but the history. I learned a lot, and time flew by. Highly recommended!
