What you'll do

Enjoy a hands-on cooking class in a home kitchen

I’ll teach you how to make Takoyaki, a popular street food, which is a ball-shaped snack made with flour. In this instance we’ll be filling ours with octopus. I’m a chef and this fun, hands-on class is taught in my own home. You’ll have ample opportunity to ask questions while I teach you all the secrets to making Takoyaki for friends and family when you get home.

Midori Nukumizu-San offered a fun, interesting and delicious cooking experience. She gives you all sorts of useful info on the different ingredients needed. In addition to the takoyakis we prepared together she had an exquisite miso soup with coton tofu and enoki mushrooms ready and she made a lovely spinach salad with ponzu sauce on the spot. We ended up sharing a full meal, which was more than expected. The takoyakis were delicious and really fun to make. I would recommand it to families as Midori-San knows show to adapt to her audience and shows herself interested in her guest.

It is a wonderful class for someone has little or even zero knowledge of Japanese food. I like how they arrange a little tasting session of different kinds of Japanese sauce before the class started. Mrs Midori has wonderful personality and she will answer every question you can think of. There is a very nice lady doing the interpretation which is a plus although I think the teacher’s English is good enough. The takoyaki we made is amazing, I learned many tricks to make perfect takoyaki from here. You can never feel boring during the class because we not only talk about food, we exchange our culture experience as well. It’s a memorable experience for me. Highly recommended.

The class was exceptional- Midori was a great teacher but just being with her was an amazing experience. She is so kind and welcoming. Her English is fantastic and she shared tons of information about more things to do while in Kyoto. We brought our kids (4 yrs and 9 months) and she is one of the only instructors in Kyoto that accommodates kids under 13. She had tiny gifts for our kids and made them feel welcomed and happy the entire time! She is a love-filled person and very special!

Midori made a first batch of Takojaki in order to show us how to do it, and then we got the chance to give it a try. The dough and the ingredients were prepared in advance though; so you don't take part of the preparation. We had a good time and din't see time passing. Midori also gave us a lot of tips, thanks again !

Unfortunately I did not like my cooking experience. It was the worst one I have ever had. I have taking cooking classes around the world on all continents and I am working in a restaurant business where we give cooking classes, so, I am in this subject deeply and I am able to judge someone's cooking class. The place was not clean :( It was messy, there was NO ONE surface in that cooking studio empty. Everywhere was some kind of junk sitting on her tables/surfaces. I did not want to take pictures because it was not beautiful place. Or you can just take a picture of food and it is. All waste went to a sink. Anything like trash was tossed to a sink. When we had our dish done, we were eating it and on the left and the right of that table was junk that had no relation to our cooking class. I like a very organized kitchen, I like kitchen tables are having ONLY things for this particular cooking class and no more junk sitting around. It was not worst of 60$, believe me. It was not really hands on this dish either. When I booked I asked the cook to present another dish of octopus to me for extra $ and she said - YES!!! , but she forgot about it certainly. I do not recommend this class, sorry...
