What you'll do

This is a Story Walk & one of our most popular tours, certified by so many travelers through the years! If you like listening to stories about the Raj days and Kolkata then this is your tour! It is a very interesting story of how the British started trading in this part of the world rivalling earlier European entrants. Many a booming cannon later, they became the leading traders. What followed was a small fort, a big port, a great battle, many changing fortunes and lots of colonial cunning & politics. The East India Company & later the Flag of the Empire gave a lot of importance to Calcutta for its trading, political and administrative clout. She was after all the Capital of British India for a long time & arguably the second most important city in the Empire. Along with Defense & Administration came institutions for Entertainment, Education & Emancipation. The light of European renaissance came as an ambient source & later cascaded into its own indigenous, self generating brightness. We welcome you to join in a walk with us and hear stories and quirky, seldom heard anecdotes of the Raj era in the backdrop of the colonial buildings. The clay cup chai (tea) is on us! Let your imagination free and maybe, briefly, you can teleport yourselves into an era long gone by.

Learn more about Kaushik

Kaushik

I am a resident of Kolkata for close to 4 decades now. I have studied and worked here and being an avid photographer I have walked through most of the city, discovering her secrets which I would love to share with you. Being raised in a culturally inclined family means that I have affinity for the art and culture scene of the city. I have been hosting tours in Kolkata since 2013 and have thus been blessed with so many delighted guests who come back to the city regularly to discover more of her. My tours have been featured in national and international publications and I regularly conduct workshops and quizzes related to my city, her culture, cuisine and heritage. I have mentored quite a few avid lovers of the city to host experiences like mine so that more of the world comes to know about Kolkata and Bengal, beyond the normal guide book
