Old house in an inspiring fjord

Brekka is a terribly old house with rattling windows, which we try to make a paradise for artists, nature lovers and other crazy people (like us). The house is idyllic situated in the bottom of Gilsfjörður, next to two old barns full of broken cars and other trash. Getting here is a detour of about 2x15km from road 60, the main road crossing the West Fjords. The bumpiness of the road makes it a challenging drive, 4WD is necessary October-May and recommended in summer. The views are amazing.

Háafell Lodge

Welcome to Háafell Farm where we raise sheep, keep horses and have one friendly dog. Our private guest house is located 200 meters above the farm, up the mountain at 130 meters above sea level. It is a recently built (2020), 100 square meter, modern “turf house style” house. Háafell means “The High Mountain” and has a long river that cascades down its side with several tiers of waterfalls. It is a five minute walk to our canyon and it is possible to take a cold bath in one of the waterfalls.

Wonderful cottage located on a farm in west Iceland. Icelandic horses on the farm and sheep in the autumn. The place is surrounded by the Viking Saga, history of elves and hidden people. Nearby are two famous Cathedral of the elves, Tungustapi and Ásgarðsstapi. There is only 5 minutes drive to the geothermar pool Guðrúnarlaug where you can bathe. The working farm Nedri-Hundadalur is located 120 km west of Reykjavik. We are in the center of Snæfellsnes, Borgarfjörður and West fjords. We offer a camper suite, with kitchen and wc. Outside the camper is a hot tub, you can use, just let us know if you want. The sleeping space is for 4 slit to two grown ups and two children. The environment is beautiful and peaceful.

Upon arrival, Niels immediately told us about the beautiful things we could still see on our way back to Keflavik the next day. The room turned out to be beautifully authentic, spacious, and equipped with a super cozy patio where we would eventually spend the rest of the evening while waiting for the Northern Lights. And guess what, we were lucky enough to see them. After that spectacle we went to sleep in a very comfortable bed. In every aspect, this is a real recommendation, from the host to the surroundings. Thank you Niels and Ragnheiður, and hopefully, until next time.

We had a lovely stay! They were great hosts, and made us feel right at home. As others have mentioned, the breakfast is delicious. The hosts join the guests during this time, and I find that quite nice. Would definitely recommend if you’re traveling in the area. We wish we could’ve stayed longer!

Neil's place was a little off the beaten path. But it was a nice clean place and he was very accommodating. We had lost a passport and spent all day back tracking trying to find it and wasn't able to eat with him. We arrived really late and he was very understanding and met us at the house.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of our cottage! Níels was very kind and flexible. The facilities were great, kitchen access and bathrooms were perfect for a long or short stay. I wish I could have stayed longer!
