The Honu House—New Cottage Steps From Beach

Welcome to the Honu House! A quiet beach retreat, full of light and amenities. Spot the elk, deer and abundant birdlife from our deck, surrounded by nature. Inside we've designed with an Hawaiian-influenced vibe with sets of oversized French doors, pale washed birch walls, travertine tile heated floors throughout that are warm in winter and cooler in summer. Our local beach is gorgeous and quiet. We sit in a small community of homes along the beach, between the two capes, Lookout and Kiwanda. Access to the beach is now from the trail at the end of the lane next to ours. Dogs welcome now! Let me know if you are bringing your pup! The cottage is bordered by the Sitka Sedge State Natural Area providing ultimate privacy, pine forests and walking trails to the estuary. Designed for one or two couples, or a small family, there are two bedrooms with a queen bed in each. The back bedroom has a half bath and french door opening to the wrap around deck and to nature. Two fold out single beds are tucked into the sectional couch in the living room. Bedrooms are cozy with a cool vibe and have brand new mattresses for a good night's rest. This is a simple house to find what you need with it's open floor plan and light and bright space. The floors throughout the cottage are travertine tile with radiant heat, so you can run around with bare feet in the winter, but stay cool in the summer! With the three sets of oversized french doors in the main space open to the deck, birdsong floats over the sounds of the waves. The beach access is from the next street over, Pollack, with an easement just at the end of the lane and now with access to the improved estuary trails through a sandy pine forest. The kitchen has been designed for cooking! We've put a large butcher block island in the center for prep and conversation as we know we all end up mingling there-you will find a good set of knives, pots and pans and odds and ends in the generous pantry to put together a meal. You will also find a Kitchen Aid mixer to please the baker, and plenty of tools to boot. The field next door often hosts the neighborhood elk, or deer. They seem to come early in the morning and are often grazing quietly while we are out on the deck with our tea and coffee. Also in abundance are the doves, hawks, bald eagles and blue herons. The local bunnies are seen in abundance as well, keeping one eye up in the sky and the other on the grass. Enjoy your time here!!! Guests have the whole house to themselves. Hosts live in Portland. The cottage has a security system which we set in between guests arrivals and departures. Your key locks all sets of doors as well as deadbolts. Thank you. If you need any assistance, please contact us directly. We are happy to help. There is a land line mounted on the entry closet. Cell phone reception is limited here until Verizon builds a cell tower, so we use Wifi calling through our carrier when at the house. Clear cellular reception can be found closer to Pacific city, or on the beach! The cottage is bordered by the Sitka Sedge State Natural Area, providing ultimate privacy. You can access their trails from our neighborhood and wander through the pine forests to the estuary. Cycle the Three Capes circuit, surf in Pacific City, and kayak through Sand Lake estuary. Whale watching with volunteer guides is common up at Cape Lookout and up from the ridge south of Tierra Del Mar on the way to Pacific City (3 miles away.) Tierra Del Mar is a quiet neighborhood close to Pacific City to the south for shopping, groceries and an award winning brewhouse. There are rental outfits for surfing, kayaking or fishing there as well. To the north along the Three Capes scenic drive, you can head to the tidal estuary at Sitka Sedge Natural Area for a walk or kayaking trip. Continue on to Cape Lookout for a 2 mile hike to view the whale migrations in the spring and fall, and on towards more fun on Netarts Bay, home of Jacobsen Salt Co. Further along northward is the quaint town of Oceanside at Cape Meares. For cyclists, this is a terrific ride as Hwy. 101 is inland of the coast along this stretch and the road is less travelled, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the scenery.

Oceanside Inn 1: Oceanfront w/ 2 primary suites!

Oceanside Inn #1 is one of the favored units at Oceanside Inn. This historic property dates back to the 1920’s but recently underwent a full renovation. #1 is on the main level, on the Western (ocean-facing) end of the Southern wing, with unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and Three Arch Rocks National Wildlife Refuge. There are two bedrooms: one with a king bed and an attached bathroom, and a second with a queen size bed an attached bathroom. There’s also a second half bathroom off the living room. Shared amenities at Oceanside Inn include three Level 2 EV chargers, complimentary guest laundry machines, and a massive deck extending over the bluff, and stairs to the beach below (there’s also a public beach access without stairs a block away). As noted in some reviews, the parking lot can be a little tight, and can occasionally be full (there are ten spaces for the ten units, but parking is not assigned). There is street parking immediately in front of the building, and plentiful parking about a block to the North across from the Blue Agate Cafe. Oceanside is considered by many to the hidden jewel of the Northern Oregon Coast. The beach is always special, but it’s even more so in Oceanside during low tides: tide pools abound on the far side of Maxwell Point. You can walk the tunnel under the Maxwell Point, or if the tide is sufficiently low, walk around it. You can easily harvest mussels by hand (with a shellfish license, purchased online from ODFW), and the tide pools are filled with anemones, sea stars, crabs, and mollusks. A few minutes to the south is Netarts Bay, where you can rent crab boats from Big Spruce Boat Rentals or Netarts Bay Garden RV Resort. They’ll give you tips for success, and they’ll even cook them up for you assuming a successful haul. You can crab year-round, but it’s generally best in fall and winter. You can also try clamming in Netarts Bay at low tide - there’s even a patch of geoduck clams at the start of the bay near Happy Camp! Oceanside is known as one of the best spots on the Oregon Coast for whale watching. While whales can be spotted any time of year, they’re most common from mid-December to mid-January as 20,000 gray whales migrate south to Mexico, and again in late March through early June as they pass by on their return to Alaska. When the weather is nice, the 180 degree views from the massive shared deck make it the perfect spot for whale watching. In town, you’ll find three great options for food within a block: Blue Agate and Current Cafe open for breakfast (and coffee!), and Rosanna’s is open starting with brunch . There’s also a small grocery store in Netarts, or a Safeway about 15 minutes away in Tillamook. The scenic road to through to Tillamook through Cape Meares is once again open, and while longer than the drive through Netarts, the views are exceptional. The drive down to Pacific City along Cape Lookout road is also amongst the most beautiful on the coast, making Pacific City (40 minutes to the south) an exceptional day trip. You can enjoy a drink at Pelican Brewery while watching the surfers and dory boats on the waves, and you can climb and slide down the dunes. We look forward to hosting you!
