New River Retreat

Well, I never thought I’d be writing an Airbnb review like this, but here we go. Anna and Michael can be credited with saving me and my partners life during our stay at their quaint and cozy little cottage. Less than 8 hours after arriving, we were hit hard by Hurricane Helene on September 27th, 2024. Anna and Michael welcomed us into their home and fed us, helped us, and listened to our concerns. As the water rose ~20ft+ and up to the second story of their home, flooding all our vehicles, washing away many of their possessions, and threatening their home, they remained calm as we all came up with a game plan. Ultimately, my parter and I were able to make it home by midnight the same night after hiking under Anna and Michael’s instructions to a road where we were able to hitchhike back into town. Since then, Anna has been in constant communication with my partner about his vehicle and other concerns. We can’t thank them both enough for their hospitality, calmness, and kindness.

Return To A Simpler Time at Lazy Y Mountain Farm

We loved our stay at this charming old farmhouse! The property is peaceful, beautifully kept, and surrounded by rolling pasture with cows grazing just beyond the fence—such a calm, grounding view to wake up to. The house itself has a cozy, historic feel with all the essentials, and it’s the perfect base for exploring the area. We went hiking at a Grayson Highlands, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking—truly one of the most picturesque spots I’ve ever been. A perfect stay if you’re looking to unplug and enjoy nature.

Babbling Brook Cabin

AndrewRating, 5 stars6 months ago
Beth's cabin was a great cozy getaway for the the thanksgiving week. While small, it is surprisingly big! The kitchen had all of the essentials to cook and the fireplace was great and came prepared with some wood and paper to get it started. It was quite cold outside but the heater did a great job and there were plenty of comforters to stay warm! Our dog also loved the yard and had plenty of room to run. The area did get hit by Helene but the roads were fine and it did not impact our plans at all. The nearest town is still on its path to recovery but the cidery there was great and a little bit further in West Jefferson everything was running as normal.
A welcome flag featuring whimsical mushroom designs is displayed near the entrance of the cabin. Lush greenery surrounds the flag, with a gravel road visible in the background leading through a peaceful forested area.

5 Min. Walk to Town, Pets Ok, Hot Tub, Fire Pit

BrysonRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
A little spot of heaven, that's the best way we could describe it. Michael was very helpful in recommending things to do in town! The house has everything you could need plus some (my fiance and I loved the s'mores supplies). It was such a peaceful place to get away from the real world for a few days. We were recommending it to friends before we'd even left! Would love to stay again!

Historic Gambill House

We stayed here while in the area for an ultramarathon and really enjoyed our stay! Location was great, house was very clean, and there was plenty of space. The only downside was it was slightly loud and bright at night with cars passing by, so I’d recommend a noise machine for anyone sensitive with sound when sleeping.

If you are looking for a couples getaway, this is perfect! Nathan was an excellent host and communicated well with us throughout the stay. There is one neighbor as stated but really we never knew they were there (other than the occasional sounds of a car door but we never saw anyone). I definitely would book again!! Very quaint and romantic.

Granny’s Haven-Comfort of home

AdriannaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The photos in the listing are beautiful which is why we booked, but they do this place no justice. Amanda’s place was one of the cleanest AirBnBs we’ve ever stayed in located in such a peaceful part of town. It’s beautiful! Getting anywhere is 6 min away, including Mt. Jefferson. The hot tub was not working during our visit but Amanda communicated that transparently a month before our visit and kept us updated which we appreciated. 100% would stay here again.
