The Tropical Refuge, relaxation.

Fatuma has helped us and advised us since we arrived when Kenya Airways didn't bring our luggage. They learned a lot from her about life on the islands. She helped us get a local SIM, finding a car rental, and organizing our trip and staying in her house. She showed us a nice and original dress that she designs and sells in her boutique in Moroni. She was interested in our destiny even after we'd been in a different place for many days. So far, I've been with Airbnb with such a welcoming and warm host, even though I was happy with other stays. We stayed in spacious rooms with ample space for our own belongings. The beds were comfortable. In the equipped kitchen, we could prepare tuna bought from fishermen. The dining room is part of the garden, under the roof and outdoors at the same time. In bad weather, it could be used as a dining room and kitchen. The nearest beach is covered with trash, but just a little further away, bathing in the sea is good. Basic groceries are available near the house.

Djaou furnished room

AndreasRating, 5 stars5 months ago
The room looked similar to the pictures, even though I got another room. The room change was due to the effects of a cyclon that was just before my arrival. There was no warm water, with the water not very cold due to the temperatures. Breakfast and dinner were so good and especially the chicken was delicious even though the portions could have been larger. Breakfast cost 5€ and dinner 7/8€. Feyzlat's sister and the other staff were very helpful and helped you very well. Although none of the staff was able to speak English (which is relatively bad in the Comoros), communication through translation apps worked well. The property is located along the main road (which you haven't heard of) between the airport and Moroni, so you can get everywhere by shared taxi from there. Also, the sea view was priceless while eating.

The hotel is welcoming and responsive to messages. The accommodation is spacious, with water and electricity (obviously when the network is active). The accommodation is secure. Near the beach and 30 min max from Trou du Prophete on foot. Restaurants are located right next door.

Naima's place was the perfect place to stay before heading to Moheli. If I hadn't already booked a place upon return, I would have stayed with her for my entire time on Grand Comore. Her place is north of the city in Itsandra, but walkable to downtown or a quick, easy, and cheap taxi ride away. The beach is right by her place, and the neighborhood is safe and friendly. Her home is spacious and airy, the bedroom has a lock, screens on the windows, and a very good mosquito net. Naima's cooking is excellent, especially her homemade spicy pickled condiment and fresh juices. If you can arrange to have her cook for you, do so! She is also extremely helpful in providing information. Her English is limited, but she understands a lot, and we got along just fine. She even had a family member who spoke excellent English speak to me to be sure everything was okay. She met me at the airport with beautiful flowers as well, which was so kind. If (when!) I return, I will stay with Naima again :)

Farida Lodge /Sea view room

KateRating, 5 stars4 days ago
Great place to stay, near the Volo Volo Market. I needed a last minute place due to a flight cancelation, and this place worked out perfectly. I wasn't able to have any meals there, including breakfast, as I couldn't reserve far enough in advance. If you want meals, make sure to message Farida prior to arrival. There are also restaurants near by. The dogs are a bit scary in the evening. I love dogs, but I was bit on the street by a dog in a country a couple of years ago, so it was scary for me. As I was entering and leaving three times that evening (I forgot something in my room), on my final return, one of them nipped me. Nothing bad, but given my past experience, a bit unnerving. If you are leaving or entering in the evening, I suggest having someone meet you to help you with the dogs. I would suggest this rather than avoiding booking the place, because the home is lovely and Farida is very friendly and helpful.

Villa Saifoudine Bed & Breakfast

It was a very recharging and peaceful week during which I felt very welcome, slept well and had all that I needed. Great tips and ideas about where to eat, what to see, how to get around. Many thanks and I highly recommend visitors to Moroni to stay here. I would love to visit again.
